Could this senseless loss of life have been prevented are justice and compensation available to Richard Boatner’s family?

Security measures are under scrutiny after a Rome motel shooting tragically claimed the life of 35-year-old Richard Boatner Tuesday night, December 11, 2018.

According to The AJC, gunfire erupted in the parking lot of the “[an] Inn on Martha Berry Boulevard about 9:40 p.m.” Mr. Boatner was transported to Floyd Medical Center, where he succumbed to fatal injuries. Police told media they have since identified a suspect.

The motel was the apparent location of an assault investigation in October, per Rome News-Tribune reports.

Was negligent security a factor in this Rome motel shooting? Read Our Legal Take below to find out if Mr. Boatner’s family may have legal avenues for justice and claims for substantial compensation in Georgia.

Our Legal Take

Hotel guests have a right to feel safe and secure while on the premises. The Murray Law Firm questions the level of security provided at the hotel and whether this tragedy may have been prevented.

  • Have there been prior incidents of violence on or near property?
  • What additional security measures, such as guarded entry, guest screening, bright parking lot lighting, monitored surveillance cameras, and visible security patrols, were implemented to deter crime and protect guests following media reports of prior violence on property?

By law, property owners in Georgia are required to protect all those legally on the premises from any foreseeable harm.  Should the facts of this matter reveal that the motel owner failed to provide adequate security, Mr. Boatner’s family may seek justice and elect to pursue legal claims for his wrongful death.

The Murray Law Firm has recovered millions of dollars for victims of unsafe properties in Georgia, and recently obtained a $29.25 million dollar verdict in Georgia.
